Wow ! I went to sleep last night not in any way expecting to see so many new names the next morning! I'd like to say a huge hello to all of you. I really enjoy reading all your comments in this thread and I feel as though this is a great way for us to get to know each other. I'm really happy about the diversity of your interests. It seems as though Stargate: Atlantis is in the lead but we also have some unusual fandoms -- Little House on the Prairie, MacGyver, Star Trek TOS, we don't see much of these anymore and it's great to see you keeping them alive. Someone also mentioned fanzines -- how retro! I would also like to thank you for your support. A few of you mentioned that you had interest in contributing to my investigation and this makes me feel very confident, very happy. I look forward to conversing with you as friends as well as experts on this topic. "So, I mean, ultimately this is happyshep's decision, but I'd definitely be interested in seeing topics posted that would allow us to talk about our fandoms, the preferred characters that we like to see hurt and the relationship pairings (or OT3s or OT4s or-- *shot*) or the generic relationship (family or teammates, for example) they look for in fanfic. I think all of those topics are major factors in why we like hurt/comfort and what we read it for, so... Yeah. Um. Hi?" Stabotage, this is a great idea and I thank you for your suggestion. I would be very interested to hear about your individual fandoms and favourite characters. Within such discussions I will have to hand over the reins to you guys since most of these shows I will have never seen, and I trust that you will direct the discussion into interesting avenues. Edit: I forgot to answer your question StarLight. You can call me anything you like, and Ox is fine

Hi! I'm Anguis (anguis_1 on livejournal), and I followed a link here from lj (might have been an NCIS comm; I don't quite recall). Anyway, my primary fandoms right now are Harry Potter and Law & Order: Criminal Intent, although I'm peripherally involved in Criminal Minds and NCIS (and my fanfic roots go back to my days in grade school with the Hardy Boys and the Three Investigators, before I even realised that there was a name (much less communities!) for my fannish tendencies). I'm pretty busy right now, so I don't have a lot of time to post, but I'd love to contribute what I can.

Being sympathetic to your cause, since I, too, have asked to pick the brains of this astonishing and supremely helpful group, I see no reason not to reciprocate--any further research into the murky realm of fanfiction is reason enough. Hello. My name is Marchwriter. And it's been approximately thirty seconds since I lost thought about fanfiction.

Hello all, I'm Space1Traveler and here because of the LJ invitation. I am a voracious reader of SGA. I wish I could write like some of my favorite authors who write fandom for SGA. But alas, no can do. I have written one story. I have another that I would love to read if someone would write it; I keep it close to my heart.
I could read hurt/comfort non-stop, especially about John Sheppard and Rodney McKay. Sheppard is my favorite. I have read some slash and I love John/Rodney stuff the best. I don't like the NC17 stuff. I would be happy if they just love each other and never have sex. They are just perfect characters and they complement each other so well, in my opinion. If it is possible, I love the ff characters better than the TV characters. I think its because there is more h/c in ff than TV and the stories are fleshed out more. I have it so bad that I print stories to read late at night; I save stories in my LJ memories; I have over 300 stories saved in my favorites at fanfiction.net; I have squirreled stories away at the Wraithbait site, and have recently began a Delicious account. That does not include the authors individual sites where I go to do sneak peeks.
I miss the show very much; the actors were professional, beautiful, and believeable. No one can deny that Joe Flanigan and Jason Mamoa are two of the most handsome men that God ever created. I am waiting to purchase the final season to complete my set and the promised movie/DVDs and I hope that they prove to be worth the wait. I would love to go to a Comi-con or Creation convention to see the characters in their RL personas, but lacking the funds I content myself with perusing the internet for new stories and re-reading my favorite old ones.
I have never been in a forum as this for a long-term commitment and I am not that computer savvy, hence no long-term commitment; if I get into the wrong place or ask about definitions of some of the short-cut lingo, please forgive.
Oh, I'm in Michigan (USA) and my friends have been caught discussing an intervention for me and taking away my computer in regard to SGA. So if you don't hear from me for a while, I will have been taken against my will and put in a small room without internet access. Call the police!
If I forgot to tell you something you would like to know, just ask.

I've only gotten into fanfiction in the last few years, although I read the occasional ST:TOS fanzine way back in college. I attended one of the first ST Conventions, which is where I read my first Kirk/Spock story. Oddly enough, for a Southern Baptist girl from the rural south, I wasn't that shocked. ;D Then agian, it was the equivalent of a modern PG-15, mainly for the violence.
I have always 'rewritten' the endings of books and TV shows in my head and daydreamed about the characters. I had only written a couple of fanfics before I got into an NCIS forum. That's when a challenge rekindled my long abandoned interest in writing. Although I have numerous fandoms, I've only written NCIS. I mainly read the Stargates, Supernatural, and Torchwood -- and NCIS, of course! I'll read others if I stumble across them or get recced, but I don't actively search them out.
btw: I have a sticky spacebar that likes to smush words together. Even if I remember to run the spell checker, "to me" may come out "tome".
Apologies in advance, Jagfan, aka Janie

A warm welcome to all new members! People of all ages and interests, this is wonderful. I can relate very well with the story which seems to be common for many of you, in that since childhood we loved reading and fantasizing even before we realized that FF gave a name to and a place for these daydreams to manifest as an art form. And Jagfan, that's no problem at all

Howdy. Some call me... Stealth Dragon. "Oh Stealth Dragon the Enchanter!" *Cough!* Sorry, Monty Python moment. I dithered a little about joining because all I need is another excuse to be on the Internet for hours. But a discussion on fanfic and H/C? How could I refuse! I'm a writer/reader of both fanifc and original stuff, and obessed with writing in general. Stargate Atalantis is pretty much my one and only fandom, though I was into CSI:NY a while back, and sometimes dabble in a litte Dr. Who now and then. Gen is my only genre of choice, though I do enjoy a few AUs now and then, and I absolutely adore H/C with a passion

Hi there, I'm Listy, and I saw your post at the Gundam Wing lj community, and thought I would join in!
I was writing fanfiction long before I knew what it was called (mainly Robotech and Voltron), and making up stories about fictional characters for as long as I can remember. Though I have been writing ff copiously for two decades, very little of it is posted online. What I wrote in high-school and college was all by hand in notebooks, and my main story, a massive crossover, is so complex and weird that I have always just kept it between a few understanding friends. It has only been lately that I have had an urge to post my fics, mainly Gundam Wing (though I usually try my hand at every fandom I encounter at least once). I have a few posted now, and am working on a longer piece which will be going up soon.
I've been reading fanfiction since I first went online around 97 or 98, mainly Fushigi Yuugi and Gundam Wing, though I'll try anything that comes highly recommended. I find the yaoi phenomenon utterly facinating, though I am not a fan of pure smut. I enjoy character developing angst and romance, in either straight or gay pairings. I do read gen-fic too, and that is mainly what I write, though I have tried my hand at just about everything.
Can't wait for some fun discussions!

Hi,
I'm Supernoodle and I've been writing Fanfic for about 7 years. I'm currently only writing Supernatural fics, although I have written in other fandoms in the past.
I have tried not writing H/C, but I have a natural tendancy to go down that road and it's generally the only genre I enjoy reading.

Hello, My name is Valerie, A.K.A SongBirdie. I saw your posting on NFA and I couldn’t pass up the chance to talk about Fan Fiction with other writers and readers. ;D I have written ten stories for NCIS, eight of which are one shots, and two in progress. Also one story for Teen Titans [the comic] and another for Law and Order: SVU. My current fandoms are NCIS, Law and Order: CI and SVU, and in the past Harry Potter and Teen Titans [the cartoon.] I have been reading Fan Fiction for four years and writing for four months. My main genre is Angst, but I love H/C. Valerie

Hello. I decided to officially join the site if for no other reason than so that I don't have to deal with those annoying "I'm a human being" verifications every time I want to post. I'm a relative newcomer to any kind of fiction writing, having started only just over two years ago, and I indulge in fanfiction (NCIS) and original fiction (which I hope some day to finish and publish). I mostly write angst, H/C with occasional forays into more extreme forms such as torture (psychological and physical). I'm not a romance person in any way, shape or form, although I have been muscled into writing it on occasion. I do tons of research for my stories in order to make them accurate. This is probably because in real life I'm writing my dissertation and research comes as naturally to me as breathing.
